Spike+
Spike+ is a fully integrated digital number plate reading camera incorporating both the camera and the recogniser within a single sealed enclosure.
The unit comprises a monochrome CCD camera with high sensitivity in the IR, surrounded by a ring of IR LED's. Patented filter / flash technique gives suppression of headlights and bright sunlight. Field-by-field control of camera parameters allows the use of patented 'triple flash' technique to reduce problems of plate-to-plate variability.
There is an optional integrated colour camera that can be set to the same focal length as the monochrome camera, or it can be set for a wider field of view. Thus an ANPR system can be set to always capture from the monochrome camera, however when lighting conditions allow, a colour overview image of the vehicle can be captured. The use of different focal lengths enables number plates to be read over a much greater range.
The integrated number plate recogniser incorporates the PIPS 'AutoPlate' ANPR engine, which has been proven in many countries and states and world-wide. Patented real-time video triggering upon plate presence provides excellent plate detection. A vehicle presence trigger input is also provided for the most demanding applications, e.g. taking an overview picture of a vehicle with a missing plate.
