PAGIS

PAGIS™ brings together the latest technologies to provide world class performance for in-vehicle ANPR. Close co-operation with the Police has ensured a system that really enhances the task of the police officer. The PAGIS™ system is inherently simple to use. Single push button action leads the officer into the information needed for the situation in hand. Ultra high accurate capture and recognition is instantly referenced against current databases such as DVLA, Police National Computer (PNC) database and unlimited live databases. All applications are compatible with the Anite Back Office 2 System.

The camera is connected to a purpose built mobile computer, which runs the PAGIS software. This has been developed in collaboration with the police to ensure that it meets the needs of the officer in the car. PIPS ANPR cameras scan and record the vehicle registration numbers of every passing car. The numbers are then cross-checked against a number of databases, including the Police National Computer, the DVLA and police intelligence records. It can tell police officers within seconds whether a vehicle has been stolen, is known to be involved in a crime, or is untaxed. Even with millions of records in the database, PAGIS will return an answer in a fraction of a second.

In the rear of the car a PIPS P362 dual camera is fitted to a robust pan and tilt mechanism which is controlled via the touch screen which shows the PAGIS software. One camera uses visible light to take "overview" pictures and the other uses infra-red (IR) illumination to capture number plates. Until recently IR could not be used effectively from the inside of a vehicle because the glass used to make vehicle windows is virtually opaque to IR. This problem is now resolved. PIPS have collaborated with Pilkington Glass to design and manufacture a rear windscreen which transmits IR and which also meets all relevant design and safety criteria for use in motor vehicles.
